Finland Eases Swine Fever Forestry Restrictions to Support Management
In late August, the Finnish Food Authority expanded the African swine fever infection zone in southeast Finland after an infected dead wild boar was found in Pyhtää, Metsäkeskus reported (9-1-26).
The infection zone now includes Kotka, Hamina, and Pyhtää, as well as parts of Loviisa, Lapinjärvi, and Kouvola.
The Finnish Food Authority is also considering changes to restrictions and support application periods affecting the management of seedling stands and young forests. Forestry work and soil preparation are now permitted within the infection zone, except for controlled burning.
The core infection area in Virolahti remains subject to stricter restrictions.
Agricultural and forestry machinery used within the infection zone may only be removed from the area after it has been washed and disinfected.
