Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Declined in March

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) in March declined 19.0% year-over-year in value, from US$423.2 million in March 2022 to US$341.9 million in March 2023.

Pine sawnwood exports fell 19.0% in value, decreasing from US$73.9 million in March 2022 to US$50.9 million in March 2023. In volume, exports declined 6.0% during the same period, from 275,000 cu.m to 285,900 cu.m.

Tropical sawnwood exports decreased 38.0% in volume, from 43,400 cu.m in March 2022 to 27,000 cu.m in March 2023. In value terms, exports decreased 18.0%—from US$17.9 million to US$14.6 million—over the same time period.

Demand for pine plywood exports fell 22% year-over-year, from US$86.6 million in March 2022 to US$67.5 million in March 2023. In volume, exports dropped 0.4% over the same time period, from 214,300 cu.m to 213,500 cu.m.

Tropical plywood exports declined 45.0% in volume and 44.0% in value, from 6,200 cu.m and US$3.2 million in March 2022 to 3,400 cu.m and US$1.8 million in March 2023.

The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$59.5 million in March 2022 to US$54.4 million in March 2023. This represents a 9.0% decline in total wooden furniture exports.
