Bergkvist Siljan to Close Sawmill in Mora, Sweden

Bergkvist Siljan is shutting down its sawmill in Mora, Sweden, ending more than 100 years of production, Skogsaktuellt reported (11-18-25), citing P4 Dalarna. The outlet said 35 employees have received layoff notices as the company faces difficult market conditions, a shortage of timber, and poor demand.

“It is clear that it is an incredibly difficult decision to make and sad with such a long history in the background, such a fine business and such a strong organization,” said Bergkvist Siljan AB CEO Niklas Båtelsson. He noted that the company was forced to reach the decision in March due to ongoing market pressures.

While 35 employees were notified, Båtelsson added that the final number of job losses may be lower because staffing needs are rising at the company’s sawmills in other locations. “Mora is located between the sawmills in Insjön and Blyberg, and there we see that we need to increase staffing by 15–20 people.”

The company will maintain certain operations in Mora, including parts of its Forestry Organization. Bergkvist Siljan Mora AB has been a part of Mayr-Melnhof Holz Group since 2022.
