New North Platte Regional Airport Terminal Features Mass Timber Construction
New era of air travel begins in western Nebraska
North Platte Regional Airport in Nebraska has opened its new $29.6 million passenger terminal, with local, state, and federal leaders attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Airport World reported (8-11-26).
Serving a 15-county area, the terminal includes jet bridge boarding, updated restrooms, natural light, and food options. The building features energy-efficient systems, a mass timber structure, and CLT roofing, reducing embodied carbon compared with steel construction.
Other sustainability features include stormwater capture, storage, and reuse for non-potable water needs; photovoltaic skylight glass that generates renewable energy for building systems; and geothermal heating and cooling to reduce energy demand.
The airport authority secured $21.8 million in federal funding for the terminal. North Platte Regional Airport currently handles about 30,000 passenger enplanements annually.
