Canfor to Continue Whitecourt, AB, Operations Despite Fox Creek Mill Closure

Canfor says operations at its Whitecourt, Alberta, facility will continue after the company permanently closes its Fox Creek sawmill later this summer, the Whitecourt Star reported (8-10-26).

“At this time, we have sufficient fiber supply to support our operations in Alberta, including Whitecourt and Grande Prairie,” Canfor media relations told the Star.

Discussions are “ongoing” with employees at Fox Creek, some of whom may transition to Whitecourt or other Canfor operations. Approximately 70 employees are affected by the Fox Creek closure, and Canfor expects about 30% will be offered other opportunities, including roles at Whitecourt, other company locations, or caretaking work at the Fox Creek site.
