Another Mass Timber Apartment Tower Planned for Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is already the home of the world’s tallest mass timber structure: the 284-foot Ascent building, which opened last summer. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Ascent could soon be joined by another equally tall, or perhaps taller, mass timber building in downtown Milwaukee.

The Edison was originally planned as a 15-story building with approximately 200 units overlooking the Milwaukee River. However, Nate Helbach, a managing partner at the Madison-based development firm The Neutral Project, told the Sentinel (2-9-23) that revised plans that have just been submitted with city call for a 28-story high-rise with 286 apartments. Helbach said The Neutral Project decided to expand its plans for The Edison because of the economies of scale achieved with a taller high-rise.

The Neutral Project, baring any objection to the plans from the City of Milwaukee, expects construction work on the mass timber high-rise to begin this fall, with The Edison to be completed by the fall of 2025.
