US Weekly Jobless Claims Decline in the Week Ending October 14th

The US Department of Labor reported on Thursday (10-19-23) that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 198,000 during the week ending Saturday, October 14th. This is a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 211,000 (originally reported as 209,000). The 4-week moving average was 205,750—a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 206,750 (originally reported as 206,250).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending October 7th was 1,734,000. This is an increase of 29,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,705,000 (originally reported as 1,702,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,694,000—an increase of 19,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,675,000 (originally reported as 1,674,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending October 7th, unchanged from the previous week’s revised rate of 1.2% (originally reported as 1.1%).
