On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 229,000 for the week ending Saturday, June 6, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 225,000. The four-week moving average was 219,000—an increase of 4,250 from the prior week’s unrevised average of 214,750.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending May 30 was 1,795,000, an increase of 24,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,771,000 (originally 1,777,000). The four-week moving average was 1,780,500—an increase of 4,750 from the prior week’s revised average of 1,775,750 (originally 1,777,250).
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending May 30, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
