US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Increase in the Week Ending February 1

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 219,000 during the week ending Saturday, February 1. This is an increase of 11,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 208,000 (originally 207,000). The 4-week moving average was 216,750—an increase of 4,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 212,750 (originally 212,500).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending January 25 was 1,886,000. This is an increase of 36,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 1,850,000 (originally 1,858,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,872,250—an increase of 2,250 from the previous week’s revised average of 1,870,000 (originally 1,872,000).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending January 25, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
