EU Imposes Up to 62.4% Provisional Antidumping Duties on Chinese Hardwood Plywood
The European Commission has imposed provisional antidumping duties of up to 62.4% on Chinese hardwood plywood imports, the Timber Trades Journal reported (6-11-25). The decision, published in the Official Journal of the EU, took effect on June 11.
The EU hardwood plywood industry consists of approximately 26 companies, 17 of which supported the complaint that led to the investigation. However, many EU plywood importers and Chinese manufacturers strongly opposed the move.
The investigation began on October 11, 2024, following allegations that cheaper Chinese hardwood plywood was harming the EU industry. The Commission ultimately concluded that the imports had caused injury, stating: “The current level of profitability of the Union industry is unsustainable. The imposition of measures is expected to allow the Union industry to raise sales prices and regain its profitability.”
A provisional duty of 62.4% now applies to most Chinese hardwood plywood imports. However, the manufacturer Pizhou Jiangshan Wood Co Ltd received a lower rate of 25.1%, based on the Commission’s specific findings for the company.
