US Remodeler Sentiment Edges Lower in Q1
On Thursday, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reported that its NAHB/Westlake Royal Remodeling Market Index (RMI) posted a reading of 62 in Q1, down 2 points from 2025Q4. Despite the decline, the index has remained in positive territory since 2020Q1.
NAHB said remodeler sentiment remained generally positive in Q1, even as firms continue to manage customers’ cost expectations. Only a small share of remodelers reported homeowners putting projects on hold due to economic and political uncertainty.
In Q1, remodelers reported that 21% of projects were tied to improvements made shortly after a home purchase, while 4% were intended to prepare homes for sale.
The Future Indicators Index, which measures current leads and backlog, averaged 54 in Q1, down 2 points from the previous quarter. The component tracking leads and inquiries edged down 1 point to 53, while the backlog component declined 3 points to 58. Both measures remained above the break-even level of 50.
