NAR Pending Home Sales Report Shows No Change in September
On Wednesday, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported that its Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI)—based on signed contracts for existing single-family homes, condominiums, and co-ops—was unchanged in September. Year-over-year, pending sales were up 3.8%.
An index of 100 corresponds to the level of contract activity in 2001.
The regional breakdown is as follows:
- The Northeast PHSI increased 1.1% month-over-month and 0.5% year-over-year in September.
- The Midwest index declined 3.4% month-over-month and 1.5% year-over-year.
- The South PHSI rose 1.1% month-over-month and 0.9% year-over-year.
- The West index slipped 0.2% month-over-month and 5.3% year-over-year.
According to NAR’s September REALTORS Confidence Index survey, 20% of members expect an increase in buyer traffic over the next three months, up from 19% last month but down from 21% a year ago. Meanwhile, 19% expect an increase in seller traffic, unchanged from last month and down from 20% in September 2024.
