Mortgage Rates Inch Up
On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, September 25.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.30%, up from 6.26% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.08%.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.49%, up from 5.41% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 5.16%.
Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:
“Following several weeks of decline, mortgage rates inched up this week. Housing market activity continues to hold up with purchase and refinance applications increasing by 18% and 42%, respectively, compared to the same time last year.”
