High Mortgage Rates Act as a Drag on Builder Confidence
On Wednesday, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) reported that builder sentiment in the market for newly built single-family homes fell 2 points from May to a reading of 43 in June. This is the lowest reading since December 2023 and remains below the breakeven point of 50.
All three HMI components declined:

- The component measuring sales expectations in the next six months fell 4 points to 47.
