Producer Price Index for Final Demand Resumed Its Upward Trek in April, Rising 2.3% Year-Over-Year

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported Thursday (5-11-23) that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand, seasonally adjusted, increased 0.2% in April after declining 0.4% March and remaining unchanged in February. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand advanced 2.3% for the 12-month period ending in April.

In April, 80% of the rise in the index for final demand is attributable to a 0.3% increase in prices for final demand services. The index for final demand goods advanced 0.2%.

The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 0.2% in April after inching up 0.1% in March and increasing 0.2% in February. For the 12-month period ending in April, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services advanced 3.4%.
