Canadian Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices Rise in November

On Monday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) released the Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for November.

Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI)

The Industrial Product Price Index rose 0.9% in November, marking the sixth consecutive monthly increase, following a 1.7% gain in October. Most commodity groups posted monthly gains, with prices rising most notably for energy and petroleum products. Excluding energy and petroleum products, the IPPI increased 0.4%.

Year-over-year, the IPPI rose 6.1%, extending its streak to 14 consecutive annual increases. Prices increased in 16 of 21 commodity groups.

Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI)

The Raw Materials Price Index increased 0.3% in November. Higher prices for metal ores, concentrates, and scrap were largely offset by lower prices for animals and animal products. Excluding crude energy products, the RMPI rose 0.6%.

Year-over-year, the RMPI increased 6.4%. Excluding crude energy products, the index posted a 19.0% increase.
