GreenFirst Extends Holiday Downtime at Three Ontario Sawmills

On Friday, GreenFirst Forest Products said it is adjusting operations in response to continued challenging market conditions in the softwood lumber sector, extending holiday downtime at three of its four Ontario sawmills.

The company said the extended curtailment will affect its Hearst, Kapuskasing, and Cochrane mills, resulting in a three-week shutdown running from Monday, December 22, through Friday, January 9.

“Softwood lumber markets remain under significant pressure, and extending our holiday curtailment is a prudent step to better align production with current demand,” said Joël Fournier, CEO of GreenFirst.

GreenFirst said it will continue to closely monitor market conditions and adjust production plans as needed to support the long-term sustainability of its operations and the communities in which it operates.
