Canadian Industrial Product and Raw Materials Price Indices for June

On Monday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) released the Industrial Products and Raw Materials Price Indices for June.

Industrial Products Price Index (IPPI)

The IPPI rose 0.4% in June and was up 1.7% year-over-year.

The monthly increase was primarily driven by higher prices for unwrought gold, silver, platinum group metals, and their alloys, which rose 5.9%. These gains were partially offset by lower prices for primary ferrous metal products, electrical, electronic, audiovisual and telecommunication equipment, and motorized and recreational vehicles.

Prices for lumber and other wood products were little changed over the month but were 1.1% higher than a year earlier.

Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI)

The RMPI rose 2.7% in June. Excluding crude energy products, the index increased 0.8%.

Prices for crude energy products rose 6.8%, following four consecutive monthly declines. Conventional crude oil was up 8.2%, while synthetic crude oil increased 6.4%.

Year-over-year, the RMPI rose 1.1%. Excluding crude energy products, the index was up 11.8% from a year earlier.
