ADP: Private Sector Employment Declines in September

According to the ADP National Employment Report released on Wednesday, private sector employment decreased by 32,000 jobs in September. Year-over-year, annual pay rose 4.5%.

The jobs report and pay insights use ADP’s anonymized and aggregated payroll data to provide a representative picture of the private-sector labor market. ADP notes the report reflects updates from its continuously refreshed payroll databases, offering a near real-time measure of US employment.

Commenting on the report, ADP Chief Economist Nela Richardson said:

“Despite the strong economic growth we saw in the second quarter, this month’s release further validates what we’ve been seeing in the labor market, that US employers have been cautious with hiring.”
