Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Union Members Approve Possible Strike Against CP Railway

Trains.com is reporting that during voting that concluded on Monday (2-28-22), members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) union, which represents approximately 3,000 engineers, conductors, crew members and rail yard workers, have approved a possible strike against the Canadian Pacific Railway.

According to union officials 3,062 ballots were sent out to members. While not reporting the specific number of ballots that were returned, 96.7% of those voting approved the strike.

The union is scheduled to hold mediation sessions facilitated by the Canadian Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service from March 11th through March 16th. However, the TCRC said it would begin making preparations for a possible strike or lockout which would begin on Wednesday March 16th.

A Canadian Pacific spokesperson told Bloomberg News that the railroad has offered a two-year contract with wage increases and has agreed to 20 of the unions demands, and that the union “appears poised to force a shutdown of the essential rail supply chain.”
