Canadian Labor Board Clears Way for Rail Strike if No Agreement is Reached by August 22nd

A strike or lockout at CPKC and CN could occur as soon as Thursday, August 22nd, Reuters reported (8-9-24). On Friday, Canada’s labor relations board ruled that a strike would not impact public safety but mandated a 13-day cooling off period.

CPKC said it would lock out employees on August 22 if the two sides were unable to negotiate a contract. Meanwhile, Teamsters Canada announced they would give 72 hours advance notice in the event of any strike action.
