US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update as of November 12th

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Tuesday, November 12th, wildland fire activity continues in 6 states where 7 large active wildfires have burned 290,071 acres. Most of these wildfires are in the eastern United States, plus one in California.

The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at a 2 out of 5. About 3,800 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents, including 1 complex incident management team, 72 crews, 376 engines, and 20 helicopters. In addition, wildland firefighters and support personnel continue to assist with hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina.

As of Tuesday, there were 2 large new fires being reported, and in total there are 7 large active wildfires that have burned 290,071 acres in 6 states. Pennsylvania has 2 wildfires, while California, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and West Virigina are reporting 1 each.

  • Year-to-date through November 12th, 49,677 wildfires were reported, and they have burned 8,150,741 acres.
  • During the same period last year, 51,467 wildfires were reported, and they had burned 2,577,418 acres.
