BC’s Chief Forester Announces New Allowable Annual Cut for the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area

Under British Columbia’s Forest Act, the province’s chief forester must determine a new allowable annual cut (AAC) in each of the province’s 37 timber supply areas and 33 tree farm licenses at least once every ten years. In accordance with the Forest Act, BC’s chief forester has set a new AAC level for the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area (TSA).

The new AAC for the Mackenzie TSA has been set at 2.39 million cubic meters. The previous AAC was 3 million cubic meters in 2010 and was revised to 4.5 million cubic meters in 2014 to address the mountain pine beetle outbreak. More than 50% of the annual harvest included beetle-killed timber.

The new AAC for the Mackenzie TSA takes effect immediately.
