On Thursday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand rose 0.4% in August on a seasonally adjusted basis. This followed a 0.1% increase in July. On an unadjusted basis, the index was up 5.4% over the 12 months ending in August.
The monthly change in August was driven by a 1.1% increase in prices for final demand goods, while prices for final demand services rose 0.1%.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 0.3% in August after a 0.4% increase in July. Year-over-year, this measure was up 4.7%.
