BC Awards CA$2 Million Grant to FPInnovations for Forest Sector Growth

On Tuesday, British Columbia announced that it has provided a CA$2 million (US$1.46 million) grant to FPInnovations to support the development of economic hubs intended to grow the forestry sector.

The Make More in BC project will support BC wood products, from mass timber to pulp and paper products sought in domestic and global markets. The province said economic hubs will foster regional collaboration, connect local manufacturers with local contractors and First Nations partners, unlock fiber, and create new opportunities.

The province said the project will empower forestry-sector businesses to work together on long-term strategies and solutions, including getting local logs to local mills, paychecks to workers, and wood products to markets in BC and beyond.

Commenting on the project, BC Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar said:

“On the ground in forest-dependent communities, we’ve heard it loud and clear: Forestry needs predictable access to fiber, more local logs going to local mills, to create more jobs. The Make More in BC project is about building a stronger, more resilient forest sector that is never again dependent on a single trading partner like the United States. We cannot allow forestry workers and communities to remain vulnerable to duties, tariffs, and global uncertainty. We need to make more in BC, create more jobs in BC, and build a future that keeps more value here at home.”
