Henry Spelter is a Partner at FEA, where he works on single- and multi-client consulting projects and contributes to FEA’s weekly Wood Markets Status & Trends (WMST) report.
He brings more than five decades of experience across government research, consulting, and private-sector analysis of lumber, panel, and broader wood products markets.
Henry’s career included three decades at the US Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was responsible for analysis of the lumber and panel industries.

Over the course of his career, Henry has authored more than 100 reports covering developments in wood products markets, including benchmark studies profiling the softwood lumber and structural panel sectors. He also developed an extensive model of North American lumber demand and collaborated on a comprehensive analysis of the competitiveness of the US forest products industry.

Henry began his career in Illinois as a forestry assistant at the 70,000-acre Forest Preserves of Cook County. He later spent four years with Data Resources Inc (DRI) in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he managed FORSIM, its forest products service.

Henry has broad consulting and government experience, including assignments with Pacific Northwest national forests, the US Department of Commerce, the Office of the US Trade Representative, and many US and Canadian forest products firms.

Henry holds a Master of Science in forest economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in forestry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
