Timberlab Positions Philomath, OR, Sawmill for Mass Timber Production
Portland-based Timberlab is moving forward with plans for its Philomath, Oregon, facility after acquiring the former Interfor sawmill, with activity now centered on producing mass timber products, KPTV reported (9-16-25).
After Interfor shuttered the Philomath mill in 2024Q1, Timberlab purchased the site in June 2024, positioning it to support the company’s growing CLT and glulam operations.
Philomath Mayor Christopher McMorran described the reaction to Timberlab’s involvement, saying, “When that Timberlab news came in, I think there was a sort of breath of new life, like, ‘Oh, wow, OK, this isn’t over yet.’”
KPTV revisited the site, outlining Philomath’s forestry roots and highlighting the role of mass timber in faster, more sustainable construction.
Timberlab previously said the Philomath properties would serve as support operations for a new CLT plant planned within a 25-mile radius, with the planer mill and dry kiln expected to come online ahead of the sawmill.
