Cincinnati Public Radio Completes New Mass Timber Facility

Cincinnati is now home to the first mass timber broadcast facility in the United States, a milestone in both regional media infrastructure and sustainable design, according to a feature by Radio Ink (4-22-25).

The newly completed 35,000-square-foot, $32-million headquarters for Cincinnati Public Radio, built by global construction firm Skanska, features cross-laminated timber (CLT).

The building incorporates 498 pieces of mass timber—sourced from 80- to 100-year-old black spruce trees—erected in just 37 days. These elements include massive 7,500-pound CLT stair stringers.

The project is a collaboration between Skanska, Cincinnati Public Radio, emersion DESIGN, Neyer Properties, Schaefer Inc., CMTA, and WSDG.
