Van Urban Timber Obtains Approval to Expand Squamish, BC, Sawmill Operations
Squamish council approves Van Urban Timber sawmill expansion
Van Urban Timber is set to expand its sawmill operations in the Squamish, BC, Business Park after the city council approved a development permit for a new sawmill building on Tuesday, The Squamish Chief reported (10-15-25). The company has operated on the site since 2022.
The proposal came before council on October 7 because it included several variances. Van Urban Timber requested to increase the allowable building height from 4.58 meters (15 feet) to 7.62 meters (25 feet) to accommodate larger machinery. The company also sought permission to expand the number of allowable accessory buildings from two to three and to position the main building closer to the lot line than permitted under existing guidelines.
According to a staff report, the new building must be located near the lot line to preserve driveway width and maintain access to storage areas on the east side of the property.
The property currently includes a sawmill, retail lumber yard, and multiple accessory and storage structures. The new building will replace the existing smaller sawmill.
