S&R Sawmills in BC to Receive $4 Million Grant to Upgrade Its D Mill Facility

S&R Sawmills, which has a facility on the Langley-Surrey, BC, border, will receive up to $4 million in the latest grants from the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF), the Aldergrove Star reported (12-5-23). The funding will go toward the installation of a trimmer/sorter/stacker line at S&R’s Langley-based D Mill.

According to the report, this is the latest in a series of provincial funding announcements for forestry-sector upgrades targeting a number of mills and processing plants. The S&R funding has a goal of helping the sawmill remain competitive by producing higher-quality wood products, including custom-cut lumber using second-growth timber, to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

“By investing in mill improvements, S&R Sawmills aims to not only bolster our operational capabilities, but also ensure the preservation of British Columbia’s old-growth forests,” S&R President Jeff Dahl told the Aldergrove Star.

Another Langley-based business, Western Wood Preservers, received a $300,000 grant from the BCMJF to improve their operations in November.
