Mercer Mass Timber to Expand Spokane Valley, WA, Facility

Mercer Mass Timber plans to expand its Spokane Valley, Washington, facility in a move local officials say will strengthen the state’s manufacturing base and secure the company’s long-term presence in the region, The Journal of Business reported (10-23-25).

The project is supported by a $250,000 award from Washington’s Governor’s Economic Development Strategic Reserve Fund. The grant complements a $30 million private investment, with the expansion expected to add about 50 new positions.

Mercer Mass Timber designs and manufactures engineered wood systems for construction. The 38-acre Spokane Valley site operates as a subsidiary of Vancouver, British Columbia-based Mercer International Inc., a global producer of market pulp and solid wood products with mills in Canada, Germany, and Australia. Mercer acquired the facility in 2021 for $50 million after Katerra Inc. filed for bankruptcy. The plant currently employs 82 people.

Currently, the plant can produce up to 140 boards per minute and 104,000 cubic meters of CLT annually, according to Mercer.
