Faulty Equipment May Have Caused Fire at Lumber Company in Shuqualak
Shuqualak Lumber Company, located in Shuqualak Mississippi, Planer Mill Division suffered a catastrophic fire on Monday (12-26-22) which destroyed one kiln, damaged a second kiln which was believed to be salvageable and thanks to the local fire departments the third kiln was not affected.
Fire units were on the scene of the blaze from approximately 10:30 PM on Monday until 5:30 AM on Tuesday, pouring over a hundred thousand gallons of water on the kiln buildings. They were recalled to the scene at about 6:30 AM on Tuesday as the fire had re-kindled.
Damage estimates were not yet available, and the fire was believed to be caused by an electrical switch malfunction in the kiln building.
There were no reports of injuries.
