Two Rivers Lumber Receives Second Grant for New Alabama Sawmill
Grant awarded to help lumber company build plant in East Alabama
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced a $180,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support construction of a new Two Rivers Lumber sawmill in Alabama, WAKA Action 8 News reported.
The funding follows a $180,000 Community Development Block Grant awarded earlier this year. Combined, the grants will help provide water and sewer infrastructure for the $115 million mill, which will be located on a 110-acre site at the Lake Martin Regional Industrial Park near Kellyton.
The project will install about 2,600 feet of water and sewer line, including hydrants and cutoff valves, to serve the mill and support potential future industrial development at the park.
“This sawmill will have a tremendous economic impact for Coosa County, Tallapoosa County, and much of east central Alabama,” Ivey said. “While the mill will employ 130 people, the ripple effect will benefit timberland owners, foresters, harvesters, and multiple other businesses. I am pleased to support this project.”
Two Rivers Lumber was founded in 2017 by the owners of McElroy Truck Lines and Sumter Timber.
