Canadian Wood Council Releases New Environmental Product Declarations for Five Wood Products

On Friday, the Canadian Wood Council (CWC) unveiled five new Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for Canadian softwood lumber, OSB, plywood, trusses, and prefabricated wood I-joists, Daily Commercial News reported (4-4-25).

According to CWC, the declarations provide environmental data on the potential impacts associated with the cradle-to-grave life cycle stages of these wood products.

Developed as regionalized, industry-wide business-to-business Type III declarations, the EPDs comply with the highest international standards. This ensures third-party verified environmental impact data, supporting designers, builders, and policy-makers in making informed, sustainable material choices, the council notes.

In a statement, CWC National Sustainability Manger Peter Moonen said:

“The release of these new EPDs reinforces our commitment to transparency and sustainability in the wood products sector. By providing robust, science-based environmental information, we’re equipping the industry with the tools needed to demonstrate the environmental benefits of wood and support low-carbon construction.”
