BC Supreme Court Approves Sale of Teal-Jones Group to Gillfor Manufacturing

On September 18, the British Columbia Supreme Court approved the sale of Teal-Jones Group to Gillfor Manufacturing Inc., according to a joint statement from Gillfor, court-appointed monitor Ernst & Young Inc., and Teal-Jones.

The transaction is expected to close in Q4, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals under the Competition Act and other required approvals. The transition of operations is underway, with the parties expecting minimal disruption to service and production.

According to the statement, Teal-Jones’ Surrey and Sumas operations and TFL 46 were headed for liquidation without the transaction. The acquisition is expected to preserve forestry jobs tied to those operations.

Gillfor specializes in manufacturing and marketing Western red cedar and has value-added manufacturing capabilities serving domestic and international markets. Teal-Jones operates sawmilling facilities in Surrey, BC, and supplies hemlock and Douglas fir products to domestic and international customers.

The companies said the combined business will focus on maximizing value from the coastal BC forest resource, expanding value-added manufacturing, and reducing waste through continued innovation.
