US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for September 25

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Friday, September 25, 26 large fires were actively burning across the country, with no new large fires reported.

The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at 2 out of 5 after being lowered on September 22. A total of 6,824 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned nationwide, including 92 crews, 267 engines, and 44 helicopters.

Most incidents are reporting minimal to moderate fire behavior, although firefighters remain alert for changing conditions. NIFC said wildfire activity continues to wind down nationally.

No active fires are contained. California, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas each had one large wildfire burning.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

  • Year-to-date through September 25, 57,087 wildfires reported, burning 8,599,888 acres.
  • During the same period last year, 52,112 wildfires reported, burning 4,489,828 acres.
