US Wood Pellet Exports Up Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in June

According to data released on Tuesday by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service and analysis by Biomass Magazine (8-8-23), the US exported 865,995.4 metric tons of wood pellets in June, up from 820,057.5 metric tons in May. That is also up year-over-year, with June 2022 shipments reported as 832,092.2 metric tons.

The US exported wood pellets to more than 16 different countries in June. The UK was the top destination for wood pellet exports at 494,421.4 metric tons, followed by Japan at 105,281.2 metric tons and Denmark at 102,771.8 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports reached $171.43 million in June, up from both $153.12 million in May and $141.32 million in June 2022.

Total US wood pellet exports in the first six months of 2023 reached 4.59 million metric tons at a value of $855.8 million, compared to 4.35 million metric tons at a value of $737.1 million during the same period in 2022.
