Exports of Brazilian Wood-Based Products Declined Year-Over-Year in July
According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), in July, Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined 36.0% in value compared to July 2022, falling from US$431.4 million in July 2022 to US$278.0 million in July 2023.
Pine sawnwood exports fell 56.0% in value, decreasing from US$90.5 million in July 2022 to US$40.1 million in July 2023. In volume, exports decreased 43.0% during the same period, shrinking from 305,800 m3 to 173,500 m3.
Tropical sawnwood exports decreased 42.0% in volume, falling from 45,500 m3 in July 2022 to 26,400 m3 in July 2023. In value terms, exports decreased 34.0%—from US$20.3 million to US$13.4 million—over the same period.
In July, demand for pine plywood exports fell 21.0% compared to July 2022, declining from US$65.3 million in July 2022 to US$51.6 million in July 2023. However, export volumes increased 2.4% over the same period, climbing from 156,100 m3 to 159,900 m3.
Tropical plywood exports declined 51.0% in volume and 54.0% in value, dropping from 5,900 m3 and US$3.7 million in July 2022 to 2,900 m3 and US$1.7 million in July 2023.
The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$58.1 million in July 2022 to US$47.5 million in July 2023, an 18.0% decline.
