BC Lifts Provincewide Wildfire State of Emergency; Officials Caution Risks Remain
BC’s provincewide state of emergency related to wildfires has ended, although wildfire risks remain, CBC News reported (8-27-26). Forests Minister Ravi Parmar announced the decision late Thursday.
The province declared the state of emergency on August 8 after the Bald Range wildfire forced the evacuation of thousands of residents in the Summerland area. The emergency was extended on August 21, but Parmar said the additional tools were no longer necessary.
“We are not done with this wildfire season. We still have many days and weeks ahead. We know that our fire seasons are more intense and they are longer. But we don’t need these tools at this time,” Parmar said.
The BC Wildfire Service also announced that an off-road vehicle ban covering many parts of the province will be lifted. The ban is set to expire Friday.
