CMPC to Invest US$90 Million to Modernize Two Operations in Chile
Chilean forestry and paper company CMPC is moving forward with investments totaling more than US$90 million to modernize two key timber operations in the Biobío Region. The company is investing $72 million in its Los Ángeles Remanufacturing Plant and $20.6 million in its Mulchén Sawmill.
The investments are part of CMPC’s two-year capital investment plan exceeding $1 billion, focused on expanding forest plantations, improving operational competitiveness, and strengthening its pulp, forestry, and consumer products businesses.
At the Los Ángeles Remanufacturing Plant, CMPC plans to expand, modernize, and automate production processes for higher value-added wood products, including panels and moldings. Approximately US$33 million will fund new equipment for automatic sawing, planing, pressing, molding, panel finishing, and finger-joint production. The improvements are intended to increase output and productivity, reduce operating costs, and improve safety and product quality.
At the Mulchén Sawmill, the investment will modernize debarking, sawing, and drying operations. The project aims to increase annual production capacity from approximately 335,000 m3 to 365,000 m3 and expand the proportion of kiln-dried products, particularly higher value-added lumber intended for construction markets.
Commenting on the investments, CMPC Vice President of Timber and Packaging Matías Lagos said:
“These investments reflect a long-term view for our wood business. We want to continue advancing towards higher value-added products, increase our competitiveness and strengthen an industrial platform that also nourishes our operations and markets in Chile and abroad.”
“These investments are part of the capabilities we are building to continue projecting CMPC as a global leader in the forestry and wood products businesses.”
