Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Increase Year-Over-Year in December

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), in December 2023 Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) increased 2.0% in value compared to December 2022, from US$270.8 million in December 2022 to US$270.8 million in December 2023.

Pine sawnwood exports increased 15.0% in value, from US$45.5 million in December 2022 to US$52.3 million in December 2023. In volume terms, exports increased by 30.0% in the same time period, from 183,700 m3 to 237,800 m3.

Tropical sawnwood exports increased 25.0% in volume, from 17,500 m3 in December 2022 to 22,100 m3 in December 2023. However, the value of exports dropped 10.0%—from US$10.2 million to US$9.2 million—over the same time period.

In December, pine plywood exports remained a bright spot, increasing 16.0% in value compared to December 2022, from US$43.4 million in December 2022 to US$50.3 million in December 2023. In volume terms, exports increased 22.0% over the same time period, from 135,600 m3 to 165,700 m3.

Tropical plywood exports declined 28.0% in volume and 8.0% in value, from 2,500 m3 and US$1.2 million in December 2022 to 1,800 m3 and US$1.1 million in December 2023.

The value of wooden furniture exports increased from US$43.9 million in December 2022 to US$54.6 million in December 2023—a 4.0% increase.
