LVL Global to Modernize Ville-Marie, QC, LVL Facility
Un investissement de 14,7 M$ pour moderniser LVL Global (translated)
LVL Global, a manufacturer of laminated wood veneer (LVL) components, will undertake a CA$14.7 million modernization project at its plant in Ville-Marie, QC, Radio-Canada reported (11-25-25). The project will automate the LVL assembly process and overhaul glue manufacturing and application throughout the line.
Work is scheduled to begin in May 2026. The company said the project is 50% funded through provincial and federal government aid and subsidies.
Étienne Ricard, President and CEO of LVL Global, said the modernization targets a critical part of production. “It’s really a critical sector for us: it sets the pace of the plant’s production. Currently, there are a lot of manual [tasks] that are done from an operational point of view, so we really come to automate certain movements,” he said.
At full capacity, the updated facility is expected to increase productivity by 9% and reduce fiber use by 4%, which the company described as an important gain.
A five-week shutdown is planned for the spring to install new equipment. LVL Global said no positions will be eliminated, and operational roles will be reassigned to quality control.
Ricard also noted that mill closures in Abitibi-Témiscamingue continue to affect LVL Global’s fiber supply. He said the existing synergy between regional wood and pulp mills is fragile because fewer operations are occurring in the forest.
“Wood should not be in short supply this winter, but the situation becomes more complex for the beginning of next summer, when we will really start to see the big impacts,” Ricard said.
