Arkansas Mass Timber Junior High Completes Primary Structure

Construction crews placed the final mass timber component of the new Woodland Junior High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on October 23, completing the building’s primary structure, the Fayetteville Flyer reported (10-23-26).

The new three-story, 160,000-square-foot campus is expected to open for the 2027–28 school year and accommodate 600–900 students in seventh and eighth grades.

Designed by Modus Studio, the building makes extensive use of mass timber, along with natural light and outdoor spaces intended to create a welcoming learning environment. Nabholz is the project’s general contractor, with construction expected to continue through summer 2027.

The campus is targeting LEED certification for sustainable building design and aims to become Arkansas’ first WELL-certified educational facility, a designation focused on the health and well-being of building occupants.
