US Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease for the Week Ending January 28th

The US Department of Labor is reporting that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 183,000 during the week ending on Saturday, January 28, 2023. This is a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 186,000. The 4-week moving average was 191,750—a decrease of 5,750 from the previously week’s unrevised level of 197,500.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending January 21, 2023, was 1,655,000. This is a decrease of 11,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,666,000 (originally reported as 1,675,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,651,500—a decrease of 10,500 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,662,000 (originally reported as 1,664,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1% for the week ending January 21, 2023, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
