US Weekly Jobless Claims Decline in the Week Ending March 23rd

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 210,000 during the week ending Saturday, March 23rd. This is a decrease of 2,000 from last week’s revised level of 212,000 (originally 210,000). The 4-week moving average was 211,000—a decrease of 500 from the previous week’s revised average of 211,750 (originally 211,250).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending March 16th was 1,819,000. This is an increase of 24,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 1,795,000 (originally 1,807,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,802,750—an increase of 3,500 from the previous week’s revised average of 1,799,250 (originally 1,802,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending March 16th, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
