US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Hold Steady in the Week Ending February 28

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 213,000 for the week ending Saturday, February 28, unchanged from the previous week’s revised level of 213,000 (originally 212,000). The four-week moving average was 215,750—a decrease of 4,750 from the prior week’s revised average of 220,500 (originally 220,250).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending February 21 was 1,868,000, an increase of 46,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,822,000 (originally 1,833,000). The four-week moving average was 1,851,500—an increase of 6,750 from the prior week’s revised average of 1,844,750 (originally 1,847,500).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% for the week ending February 21, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
