US Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Decline in the Week Ending November 15

On Thursday, the US Department of Labor reported that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 220,000 for the week ending Saturday, November 15, a decrease of 84,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level. The four-week moving average was 224,500—a decrease of 3,000 from the prior week’s average.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending November 8 was 1,974,000, an increase of 28,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level. This is the highest level for insured unemployment since November 6, 2021, when it was 2,041,000. The four-week moving average was 1,960,250—an increase of 6,750 from the prior week’s unrevised average. This is the highest level for the moving average since November 20, 2021, when it was 2,004,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.3% for the week ending November 8, unchanged from the previous week’s rate.
