US Mortgage Rates Move Lower in the Week Ending June 4

On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, June 4.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.48%, down from 6.53% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.85%.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.79%, down from 5.87% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 5.99%.

Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:

“The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage decreased to 6.48% this week. With mortgage rates in the mid-6% range and income growth outpacing home price growth, housing affordability is marginally improving.”
