US Mortgage Rates Inch Higher in the Week Ending February 5

On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, February 5.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.11%, up from 6.10% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.89%.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.50%, up from 5.49% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 6.05%.

Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:

“For the last several weeks, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage has remained at its lowest level in years. The combination of improving affordability and availability of homes to purchase is a positive sign for buyers and sellers heading into the spring home sales season.”
