Investment in Canadian Building Construction Increases in July

On Monday, Statistics Canada (StatCan) reported that total investment in building construction was CA$23.6 billion in July, an increase of 1.2% from June. Year-over-year, investment was up 8.1%.

On a constant dollar basis (2023=100), total investment was $21.2 billion in July, up 1.0% and 4.7% from a year earlier.

Residential Construction

Residential investment totaled $16.2 billion in July, up $44.0 million. Multi-unit investment was $8.4 billion, down $221.2 million. Single-family investment was $7.8 billion, up $265.2 million.

Nonresidential Construction

Nonresidential investment amounted to $7.4 billion in July, up $226.9 million.

Institutional investment was $2.3 billion, up $159.3 million. Commercial investment was $3.5 billion, up $27.0 million. Industrial investment was $1.5 billion, up $40.6 million.
